if the conservatives are against a thing you do not need to be in favor of the opposite. i am in favor of asylum for anyone who needs it, and immigration for anyone who will pay taxes. an open border is not those things -- it's just an opposite position. and it's a losing one.

Not if you want any semblance of a welfare state, proficient public services and infrastructure etc.

There isn’t unlimited jobs or unlimited money to pay for services. Public services and infrastructure can only provide for a certain amount of users. Immigration is fine as long as it’s sensibly controlled. Open borders would be a catastrophe.

Why would that happen? These people just trekked thousands of miles under direct threat from the most powerful man in the world. I think they’ll survive without charity!
