We need a new way of doing things, because while we may not be sure if the new ways will work, we can be certain that the old ways definitely wont. #YangGang

Attention STEM oriented teenagers. Consider a career in Ecosystem Engineering, what is that? You tell us? It probably involves a lot of biology, simulations, and AI. Learn from nature, figure out how to fill destroyed ecological niches and save what's still left.

I'm afraid we will have no choice. Humanity will HAVE to engineer new ecosystems to replace what we are destroying. Do we know how to do this? Nope, not even remotely. We will have to learn fast. And people thought we were playing God with some simple GMO crops, how quaint.

You donate $5 to one goddamn politician and you're on the call list for every politician in that party for the rest of time...

Conservatives will blame the ice for daring to melt when it gets too warm, and with a mirthful denial of irony scream "How dare you"
If the discourse on #Ukraine taught me anything, I'm now 100% sure if the holocaust happened today, millions of Americans would be fine with it, not even from an antisemitic standpoint, but because arming the victims to defend themselves would have cost some tax dollars.

If I invented AI that could replace 1 million American jobs, what would the response be? How about 10 million? The truth is that our government would likely never respond because what happens to workers and people no longer matters in today’s political environment.

Was on @cnn tonight to talk AI and ChatGPT with @thelauracoates and @ashleyrgold - AI can now produce college-level work in seconds and will get stronger and more powerful very quickly. The implications are profound.

Here's my predictions for the World in 2033 and 2043. Not by alliance or faction, but by how stable their institutions and government are. If anything, I feel I'm being too optimistic given the polycrisis threats of Climate Collapse, AI, Famine, Bioweapons, etc.

I was put in Twitter jail for saying trans-age people aren't real and are just pedos... I should identify as a 70 year old and demand my social security payments start immediately...

Me in 2018: Humans need to colonize the universe and spread the light of consciousness among the stars. Me in 2023: Humans are too fucking stupid to colonize the moon let alone the stars. Maybe our AI children will be better suited to the task.

UBI is Necessary. You could believe it's necessary due to AI automation You could believe it's necessary to address inequality & poverty You could believe it's necessary to boost public health You could believe it's necessary to improve welfare efficiency UBI is Necessary.

So with my new job, I'm losing ~3 lbs per week. 6 down...60 to go. 20 weeks, or ~June 10th, I should be back in shape.

On the one hand, I'm glad winter has been unseasonably warm and what should be snowstorm after snowstorm is rainstorm after rainstorm, driving in snow is ass. On the other hand, *laughs nervously* we fcked-fcked.

In retrospect, Germans building insanely huge mechs to level 3000 year old growth forests and villages that have remained untouched since the industrial revolution for the shittiest coal in the world because they refuse to use nuclear is pretty funny.

In 2040 the belief that wildlife existing in nature was a conspiracy created by the illuminati will be far more widely held than is reasonable.

If ever you run into someone who claims #China is a superpower and a threat to #America, remember these 3 words: Straits of Malacca. A few Indian, Japanese, Aussie, or US ships blockade this part of the globe, China collapses and >500 million Chinese people die in under a year.

#China has gone from building quarantine prisons at an impressive speed to building crematoriums at an impressive speed. Anyone who thinks China knows what it's doing isn't paying attention.

The 1970s were 50 years ago. We've known Climate Change is a real threat since then. We've done basically nothing to stop it. This is why we will all die.
