I mean, the forest here is obvi a desperate plea for more failed, racist incarceration. But it's worth seeing that the trees are rotten.

First, the myths. Is crime up in SF? Nope. For a number of reasons (some about Chesa, some not), crime is down. Both the
@sfchronicle &@thenib have this covered: https://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/article/Chesa-Boudin-and-San-Francisco-s-bitter-debate-16394364.php#photo-21365285 …pic.twitter.com/UEcPQPmRbS

Same goes for violent crime. The
@sfchronicle reported: "most types of violent crime actually plummeted [in 2020] — and all violent crime rates remain near their lowest levels since 1975.” Another helpful graphic from@thenib: https://thenib.com/chesa-boudin-san-francisco/ …pic.twitter.com/yTVzjExanJ

But what about homicide, it's WAY up everywhere right? Not in SF. -2019 SF homicides: 41 (fewest since 1963) -2020 SF homicides: 48 Compare: -2019 Oakland homicides: 96 -2020 Oakland homicides: 143 https://www.sfchronicle.com/crime/article/Homicides-increased-in-Bay-Area-major-cities-in-16494869.php …pic.twitter.com/k6rUgtJDQC

You can talk about SF crime stats without bringing Oakland into it. It’s a different city, different county, different income base and different community that has its own challenges to deal with outside of being a fall guy for SF.
