Love some historical fiction and always appreciate Jodi Picoult’s plot twists.

It’s important to consider text band complexity when working on retell. SWBST is a great strategy for KLM readers, but if RST readers use this strategy, they miss that the text is multi-layered and the problem doesn’t get resolved. —Jen Russo

This is so genius! 🤯 These 3rd grade teachers made bins for parts of the checklist that kids can access independently. On the back of the cards are annotated examples of what the work looks like. AND kids volunteer to include examples of their own work for others to use!

Finished this WWII historical fiction. Puzzled abt why the publisher would offer a teaser chapter of another work by the same author that definitely has more graphic language & content. Sloppy decision to add it to the back of a bk that feels written for younger teens.

This one has a bit of a John Greene vibe due to the intelligent banter. Not my favorite YA but definitely a different story. An Arab-American teen runs away to DC to learn how to have “grit” and meets a cast of other misunderstood people.

If you know any older teens or adults interested in criminal science or forensics, give them this one to read. Dense but interesting without being too graphic.

If you like realistic fiction and haven’t read this one yet, make it the last book you read in 2019. It will make you think.

If you’re spending 100% of your planning time planning minilessons, you’re not ready for workshop. MLs are only 10% of the workshop. Spend your time planning how to differentiate.
