An even bigger lesson is that Russia after defeat came back to start the 2nd Chechen War and break the agreement it had previously made. That would happen to any hypothetical agreement made with Putin in the current war against Ukraine.

A reminder that the 1st Chechen War started by Russia ended not in RU's victory. After the RU defeat in Grozny in 1996, RU had to sign Khasavyurt Accord with the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, promising the full withdrawal of RU troops. Many RU still consider this treaty a treason

We don’t know so much about what russians do with stolen Ukrainian kids, but we know that they do horrible things. Growing up in Belarus in the 90s and ‘00s I was always told horrifying stories about kids and young girls being abducted and brought to russia by sex traffickers.
