What color do you call chartreuse? Is it a bright yellow-y green or a deep bloody red? I had a lot of fun writing about my favorite topic—alternate realities—for this Hue's Hue

In college I worked for the environmental resource dept and we created a series of recycling ads (for a competition called RECYCLEMANIA) that featured me being dumped in trash cans around campus. If I ever run for office, I hope someone digs that up.

God bless those of you who write book reviews. I've been asked to review a book I enjoyed greatly, and it's VERY difficult. I have no idea how some people do this for a living but I admire you all.

Planning a bachelorette party and the normal, chill, usually very supportive bride just texted me to say "I don't want ANY SNAKES okay??" which is upsetting because I wanted to make this the dress code/theme

I love how old color words referred to the colors interaction with light - whether it shined or gleamed or absorbed

At some point in the school year, his students always find my social media. Usually it’s around May. Here’s hoping they don’t go searching early this year!

THREAD Various parts of the world will be visited by witches this week, as the Christmas season finally comes to a close on January 6th. Some witches will bear gifts. Others, terrifying punishments.

My husband likes to eat in the tub. Once I caught him eating a bowl of beef stew in the bathtub. I found it mildly upsetting. He also has been known to bring a tub of hummus in there. Such a millennial move.

Freelancing is mostly fun, but today it sucks. A company that owes me $500 suddenly went out of business and stopped replying to emails. They fired the editors and aren't replying to them, either.

As men’s magazines hire more awesome female writers and produce better content... I wonder if women’s legacy media is going to go away entirely. They’re not changing with the times as well as, say, . Maybe we’ll have less gendered media overall

Getting REALLY into podcast. It's so good! Right now I'm listening to the Jonestown episode while making potato curry and it feels like I have friends in my kitchen chatting about my favorite topic (cults, obviously)

Like Edith, I was always trying to drink "less." The feeling of stopping, just stopping, was surprisingly incredible. Suddenly, less wasn't an option. I just had to stop. And no matter what happens, I'm so glad I learned that.

The best part of being pregnant is that it forced me to stop drinking, and showed me that I could. I was afraid to even try and have kids, because I was scared I wouldn't be able to stop drinking. Turns out, I can. It felt sort of like this:
