In this instance the train terminated so, though frustrating and disruptive, I could wait. But do you know how nerve-wracking it is when passing a station and the ramp doesn’t show up - meaning you could end up missing your stop?

This scenario is all too familiar to disabled people. It is demoralising, stress-inducing, and makes me feel powerless and small. Like my time isn’t important.

Apologies for lack of captions on video - I’m out all day but will write transcript when back home. The gist is - a man offering to help and me saying I’m waiting for the ramp.

Totally nerve wracking waiting but it restores my faith in humans when people like that man actively wait and wave down help rather than leaving. That was nice, the “I mean I can shove you out” bit made me chuckle

You’re right, people are generally marvellous. I just shouldn’t have to rely upon them.

Thank you for posting this. I have been in that position so many times and the stress of it is awful. On a few occasions the train doors closed and the train moved off to next destination. Awful experience and there is simply no reason why it should ever happen.

That’s horrendous. The stress levels are definitely not good for us!

Quite a few people on that train could benefit from level boarding including those with wheelie bags. Design for accessibility and *everyone* benefits.

the curb cut effect - making things more accessible to folks with disabilities often has the effect of making things better for lots of other people.

Well done for posting. Shows the reality

I read every single thread like this that I see, which is far too many. I’d like to learn about ways that I might be of use in situations like this, if it actually is useful. I don’t want to be a bystander if there is something I can do.
