I’m going to defer to the Black latinx critics who are doing the integral work of critiquing a piece of art that sure, was never going to be “all things to all people” but it’s set in a specific neighborhood about a specific community. It should at least get that right?

Just because something is good doesn’t mean we can’t demand that it be BETTER. Especially when its failures speak to the egregious ways this system upholds the oppression of certain artists.

Finally, I also understand that these failures make this movie not enjoyable for a lot of folks and that’s OK too. When this shit is so pervasive that I’m able to love movies/TV shows “in spite of…”, I don’t know if that’s a good thing!

While I get the criticism (I am a poc), I find the criticism HARSH Maybe, just maybe if ITH makes enough $$$$ next time the cast will be more representative
-
why do you think it’s harsh? the movie is very good but it has a colorism problem. that’s just facts. and the $$$ thing comes up with every project with non-white leads. why should we keep waiting for “next time” while upholding an archaic system?
