“While the signs can look and feel different for each person, the reality is that anyone who has been affected by the bushfires should feel supported to talk & tell their story when they are ready, whether this be to a friend, family member or counsellor”

Grateful for the viewpoints. My opinion - neuropsychiatric is a framing that embraces BOTH the neurologic & psychiatric/psychological aspects of FND. FND is real and brain-based. Important to consider individual differences (one size does not fit all).

FND is not a behavioural disorder. FND is a serious and genuine illness causing disabling neurological symptoms. It is not the fault of the individual, the person is not 'maladaptive', the person is ill.

I think this figure representing the diverse symptoms domains of FND is potentially useful beyond outcome research: 'Core FND': key neuro symptoms (following DSM5) 'Other physical': other neuro symptoms (inc cognitive) & common other physical symptoms 'Psychological'

CRPS and FND time for reconciliation. This is not about saying CRPS (or FND) is all ‘psychological’. FND and CRPS biology overlaps. Understanding one helps understanding the other. Thanks .

FND is an umbrella term for a number of different types of functional disorders. People may have many functional symptoms or just one. Symptoms may also change over time.

There are multiple reasons why people may develop FND. These are unique to the individual. In some cases trying to find a cause fails to assist in the recovery process. Minimising exposure to known triggers and risk factors may be helpful in managing symptoms.

Brilliant thread by and fully agree that sits at the neurology - psychology/psychiatry interface. The human body is complex and a simplistic binary physical v psychological split does not work!
