This is an incredible story. Pennsylvania woman with likely fatal cancer stole $109 worth of food from a market to feed her family. Got 10-month sentence virtually guaranteeing she will die in jail. Lt Gov paid her $109 bill but judge is not budging.

This is part of a longer thread about working in medicine (v interesting); but I’d say this tweet sums up life in general. I learnt this lesson aged 34 when I gave birth in Jan 2014 and my mum died Dec 2014. Best and worst year of my life; life changing at cellular level.

I am not so much concerned about having a stale debate about language which is only 's original work from a decade ago, repackaged and reheated, but I am more concerned about the cuts in services for people living with dementia.

Whenever ethnic or Aboriginal Australians commit the smallest of crimes, conservative commentators always want to have a “discussion” about the entire community A white man killed 4 children yesterday in Western Sydney Where’s the discussion about young white males drink driving?

I have heard so many racists speak, as a child & particularly when working in NHS, but it was less overt. Guess this man felt empowered by his flag. It is a sad development. Easy to say it should be challenged, much harder to do alone. Let’s support each other.

One hundred years after his birth, Isaac Asimov is perhaps most useful to read as a counterpoint: a writer whose work resonates because it is out of step with the kind of future readers have become so used to imagining, writes.

If there are 8,500 complaints of violence, abuse and neglect - why have only 500 been referred to police? And what are the outcomes of those referrals?
