Here are some things Labour could do that *actually serve* the working class: - make it possible to convert additional bank holidays into holiday allowance. that way (often precarious, always underpaid) workers who don't get to enjoy bank holidays can actually benefit

        - bring back time and a half pay; bring back unsociable hours pay. and make it mandatory - make sending employees home early once their shift has started impossible, unless both parties freely consent

        - address the 2 year limit for being eligible for unfair dismissal. precarious workers (e.g. migrant workers on shorter visas) often cannot work somewhere for 2 years so are subject to unfair dismissal with no route to challenge outside (rare) 'automatically unfair dismissal'

        - include any required uniform, from smart casual office wear to all black bar clothes, to be justified against HSE requirements and therefore cost met by employer. make it illegal for bosses to enforce their aesthetic preferences at cost to their workforce

        - sessional and split shift workers who cannot reasonably work inbetween shifts should be paid for the time inbetween, or equivalent of a full day, rather than just time spent 'on task'

        - make failure to issue a written contract punishable by compensation to the worker. at present the guideline is 2 months with no reprisal. all contracts must be issued within first week of employment + an independent body to to explain contentious terms etc. paid for by employer

        - all workplaces should make information on unionisation available - your legal right to join, to representation etc. failure to do so will be akin to failure to display health certificate: a fine and a narrow timeframe to rectify the failure

        - if their business is operating after daylight hours, employers should subsidise transport for workers getting home - every worker must receive full FA3 first aid training including seizures and allergic reactions. their employer will meet the cost

        - if it is outside of your contracted working time, your employer should not be able to contact you via email or otherwise (outside of e.g. concern for your welfare) - employers should provide access to confidential service where employees can discuss mental health concerns etc

        - reasonable adjustments shouldn't be avoidable for 'business reasons' (see current legislation even re: Equality Act 2010 protected characteristics). reasonable adjustments for all workers with any health condition as agreed w/ independent occupational health should be mandatory

        - all workforces should represent AT LEAST the diversity of the population either in local area or UK-wide, whichever is greater. employers should provide translation services as necessary, alongside spaces for worship and any other cultural/religious activity

        - 'safe spaces' should be defined, by law and by consensus, and a mandatory feature of all workplaces. in circumstances where people work off-site, measures should be put in place to ensure safe space working conditions are replicated to the greatest possible extent

        - statutory workers rights should be on the wall alongside fire evacuation procedure. they should be multilingual in however many languages are spoken by that workforce, and they should be visible for all (incl. clients and patrons where applicable)

        - ban clocking in. ban computer monitoring, and monitoring toilet breaks. a worker may need to pay their rent, but they are on site voluntary. surveillance should be consensual (outside of e.g. bar CCTV where it is proven useful) and opting out should be an inalienable right

i'll add to this thread as think of things & as people make suggestions (❤️❤️ !!!). the fact is, in a capitalist society, work is assumed a necessary part of being human. as such, worker's rights cannot be seen as alienable from human rights so enshrine worker's rights in law
