A colleague told me she has heard from others that their periods were heavy post-vax. I'm curious whether other menstruators have noticed changes too? I'm a week and a half out from dose 1 of Moderna, got my period maybe a day or so early, and am gushing like I'm in my 20s again.

I'm on day 3 of my period and am still swapping out extra long overnight pads a few times a day. Typical for me at this time is maybe one or two regular pads (though extra absorbent, Always Infinity ones) for the whole day.

Does this have to do with the way the vax response is mounting a broader inflammatory response, possibly moreso because of the lipid nanoparticle or mRNA mechanism? Either way I am fascinated! Inflammation + tissue remodeling = extra bleedypants!

Ok this is too cool, the colleague and I are already plotting a self-report tool to try and gather these experiences.

I had not thought it about it, but yes. I was one week early after my first dose and it was a bit heavier (although I'm at an age where that can change each month). After dose 2 the timing was normal but still heavy. I like your theory!

Interesting! I wish I had the bandwidth right now to at least create a mechanism for menstruators to self-report symptoms. I'm sure this variation isn't being captured elsewhere and it's very interesting and worthwhile to understand!

A lot of people are discussing period changes after being sick in my long Covid fb group. Some got their periods out of the blue (post menopause), for others they're heavier, and others had changes in timing and duration

Yes, I can definitely imagine that there would be major cycle and menstruation changes after a horrible virus like covid. I think we often pay more attn to anovulation in these moments, and I suspect heavy menstrual bleeding may also be important to look at.

Fascinating! I was 5 days late and lighter than normal after first dose of Pfizer.

I've heard from one other person who had a much lighter period too (not sure if they were Pfizer or Moderna)! So the heavy thing is definitely not universal.

I got my first post vax period about 3 weeks after my first dose and didn't notice anything different. Just got my second dose so we'll see...

I was a couple of days late though, which is really abnormal for me.
