Hmmmm. Pretty sure a starving person didn’t do this to pay for groceries. This cost someone I know, who doesn’t make much and lives with their parents/grandparents, a lot of money to replace their entire rear windshield. And you’re justifying it?

It is horrible. Her point is some things domino into other behaviors. It’s not justified. But take the effects of the pandemic, shutdowns, job loss, the holidays, and seeing others not struggling can push some to do desperate things.

Exactly. When people's kids are hungry, they will do anything, and I do mean ANYTHING, to make sure they are well-fed. Is it wrong? Yes. Is it understandable? Yes.

Yeah - I disagree. I think it’s more of the same old unchecked absurdity that was happening in San Francisco long before the pandemic.

I do think the pandemic would be a good reason to put some extra effort into stopping these crimes.
