You've probably heard of the Keystone XL pipeline, a hotly debated project which aimed to transport Canadian tar sands to the Gulf of Mexico. But you might not know after the Obama adminstration canceled the project in 2015, the company didn't take no for an answer.

What might be inconvenient today could soon hamstring attempts to cut CO2 emissions even as these efforts become more urgent.  According to , 60-70% of homes will need to upgrade to bigger or more modern electrical panels to accommodate a fully electrified house.

Homeowners are struggling to find techs to upgrade their electrical panels or install heat pumps. Electricians are swamped with calls and struggling to find people to hire. Schools tasked with training the next generation of electricians are tight on funds and short on teachers.

This year, I visited the Blackfeet Nation to witness a one-of-a-kind experiment. Cancers and a mysterious new disease have been spreading on the reservation. A Blackfeet researcher has put a couple of really cute dogs to work tracking down the culprits.

At first blush, green H2 sounds great—use solar or wind to split water molecules, and get a flexible, carbon-free fuel. Until you find out that most producers will actually get power from the grid. This is worse, climate-wise, than natural gas-based H2.
