Agreed. It’s amazing how that 19% never seems to find their way to asking people like yourself that actually experienced socialism/communism about what it is really like. If they did, the number would shrink. I’m so done with people saying, well it’s never been tried. SMH

The vast majority under 35 believes the nonsense that the Nordic countries are socialist. I’ve had conversations & deconstructed this idea with individuals. We need to a better job as a society.

According to many Republicans, European-style welfare states equal “socialism.” The question should rather be, “Do you favor capitalism or communism?”

Socialism is basically a meaningless word in that it encompasses everything from FDR to Stalin. European social democracy is pretty close to what is going on here.

The problem is that while people might agree at a high level that capitalism is good and socialism is bad, asking them for a consensus definition of both is basically impossible.

The economic and political illiteracy of the population as a whole means that you are left with essential a "capitalism good, socialism bad" simplistic mindset.
