As the denials pile up after the Butina plea deal, remember that there are no political freelancers in Putin's Russia. No one can risk it. They aren't all reporting directly, but they serve one master in the end.

This is also true of the many Russian oligarchs whose fortunes and comfy lives in the West could disappear with one Putin finger snap, like Thanos. They may not serve every hour of every day, but they serve.

Their partners & contacts abroad may claim innocence or ignorance of being caught up in a Kremlin web, but this is inexcusable stupidity at best and criminality or treason at worst. They are Putin's creatures.

I assume Putin will throw trump under the bus and use the chaos as cover for some military action

Yep. Disruption has been the strategy all along--whatever happens next, Putin now has an opportunity to act in Ukraine (or wherever else he likes) with little effective opposition from a destabilized US. Trump's was never a puppet; he's a hand grenade.

I agree. I also think it's wrong to assume that Butina & Torshin have "betrayed" Putin. As far as I see it, both have served his interests all along. Putin WANTS American public to know.

Or at the very least, Putin doesn't care. He's enjoying the show, just not the sanctions.

Butina is just a classic honey trap. She worked through and with the NRA to increase Russian intelligence access to the US right wing.

Trump has broken his word to the wrong man—Putin will bury him and try to tear America apart in the process.

Agree. Putin taking him down may amuse us but is still a major problem we still have with Russia.
