The "what did people do before formula" tweets are stressing me out. Wet nurses, goat's milk, other animal milk, and oh yeah...starvation. Formula was an answer to starvation.

Feeding human kids is expensive. Calorically if you breastfeed & financially as they age. It's not supposed to be cheap because that's a whole person you're raising. And I don't know why people think infants or toddlers should eat less. That's one of the biggest growth periods

I had 6lb babies. Small, not so small they couldn't go home. But still small. By their 6 week checkups they had put on 1-2 lbs. By 6 months? They were nearly triple their birth weight. I nursed both for around a year. And I promise you a pear doesn't sub for 16 oz of milk

And listen my kids didn't do formula. One was allergic the one time we tried and wouldn't even consider bottles of breastmilk. The other would only accept a bottle if I wasn't in the house at all. And he reverse cycled even then. So I will never say breastfeeding was easy.

For a lot of people what I did would not have been possible. I produced a lot of milk & had the support I needed. Formula might be what works for you. But what won't work is starving a baby. I need one of y'all to go get your musical friend.

Wait hold up. Giving your child puréed fruits and veg is good and everything, but is this person suggesting that pears and peas with water is an adequate replacement for formula or breastmilk? Am I reading that right?

Okay that’s definitely what they’re saying, holy shit. That is so scary.

This is so weird for me. Formula is specifically formulated to ensure that babies receive adequate nutrition. You can't just up and completely substitute their diet with fruits and veggies. This reminds me of this vegan couple who insisted on feeding their newborn almond milk...

The baby ended up being severely malnourished and also got scurvy.
