two years into the TikTok manufactured moral panic and you're only just starting to see mainstream paper takes where somebody reminds folks this wouldn't be a problem if this country wasn't too corrupt to pass a modern Internet-era privacy law
I know I'm beating a dead horse but tech press coverage of the TikTok fracas has been exceptionally terrible. writers blind to their own patriotism, lots of ambiguous fear mongering about China, lots of portraying the GOP's efforts here as sincere and in good faith, etc
