Today I had the opportunity to thank the joint team that has worked so hard to build, integrate and test the NISAR instruments. Later this month we will ship the instruments to India, where they will be integrated on the spacecraft for launch in about a year.

💧New finding: Water percolating underground from the Sierra Nevada mountains into California’s Central Valley provides 10% of all water entering the valley, measured using NASA satellite data and GPS. The region relies heavily on underground water for crop irrigation.
A farm field is being irrigated by large, metal irrigation structures. Mountains are seen in the background.

So sorry to hear of the untimely passing of Ash Carter. Remembering our 1st interaction. Before making a multi-$B decision on a new DoD satellite system he asked “Can anyone in this room explain how the heck we can measure soil moisture from space?” He was physicist to the bone.

Thrilled to be working with our friends to the North at the Canadian Space Agency’s National Forum on Earth Observation. Bringing together industry, academia, Indigenous communities and government to talk about going from science to services.

SARP is one of our terrific programs for engaging students in science. So thrilled that Dr. Carlton was able to join the flights! ✈️ 🌎

WHOSTP Fellow Dr. Ann Marie Carlton flew with @NASA's Student Airborne Research Program to survey the toxic air pollution that minority farmworkers are exposed to as they work. It's important for us to understand how communities are being impacted by the pollution around them.
