Thoughtful words from actress and writer Emma Thompson: “I find the concept of “success” flat and uninteresting - our society places too much emphasis on it, and not enough on the importance of failure and disappointment.”

“The confidence that comes from having lived should be respected and valued - and that should start with ourselves.” Great insight from Erica Davies.

Working at CRA was one of the best experiences of my whole career and I, too, am always proud to tell people that.

Mentors help by giving advice and guidance - sponsors are the ones who actively shine a light on your talent - a great way to define and differentiate these roles

Thanks Elaine - great article and advice for employees - I would recommend this be assessed for corresponding practices and action by managers, for whom this is an extension of good people management overall.

I just read again, after many years, “How to win friends and influence people” written circa 1930 by Dale Carnegie. IMHO this should be required reading for anyone managing people and professional relationships

Fit really matters in our work - when we try to hammer a square peg into a round hole, we are likely to get an unhappy hexagon with rough edges. If the fit isn’t working, change it - we perform and contribute best when the fit is right

Anne Lamotte - a wonderful author - says that we tend to compare the way we feel inside with the way other people look on the outside. Everyone has a story and we don’t know the half of it. Be gentle with yourself and with others.

In my view, one of the issues in gov is how people are promoted to management. We promote people who are good at what they do, instead of hiring managers who have a talent for management. People who don't have skills to manage often = unhealthy workplaces
