Hot as it is outside, the surface of roadways is even hotter. Working in the blistering sunshine, our crews definitely feel the heat. Give them a brake, drivers. Obey the signs and flaggers, slow down and move over. They keep working so you can keep moving. #kswx

KDOT crews work hard to keep Kansas moving all year long. Did you know that asphalt is applied at 250 degrees Fahrenheit? Road surfaces can be 50 degrees hotter than outside temps. Please #GiveEmaBrake - pay attention, slow down in work zones and be kind.

A fast-moving complex or two of storms is expected to race southeast this evening and tonight. While some large hail is possible, the primary threat will be damaging winds greater than 70 mph, some of which could be widespread. Isolated flash flooding possible as well. #kswx

'Tis the season for harmful algal blooms, which can develop quickly. Avoid water that is bright green or has scum, a paint-like surface, or floating blue-green clumps. Pets or livestock that swim in, drink the water, or eat dried algae may become seriously ill or die.
