On my new year flight from Lima to SF, I wrote a blog post on the path from my previous job to the current one. TL;DR => it was an ocean of pain and experience obtained at was very useful 😀 If you like it => 50 claps. If not => 49 😀

You don't have to become a billionaire. However, focus is most important to succeed with anything. Also for small things like writing an email.

Sweet because: These are signs that NeurIPS is maturing. wrote an article about the community growing up: We’re getting better at diversity/inclusion and taking responsibility for our actions, though there’s still room to grow.

Fantastic things happening in especially in terms of our fast evolving landscape. My piece in Founders, Investors, Mentors & Facilitators all deserve credit for their contribution in elevating the ecosystem to where it is.👍

tips day 5 (h/t )! Conferences are a parade of successes. Remember that for every impressive paper there are many (unpublished) ideas that didn't pan out. Take this opportunity to ask people about negative results!

There are now 3 papers that successfully use Self-Supervised Learning for visual feature learning: MoCo: PIRL: And this, below. All three use some form of Siamese net.

Some of the smartest people I know are leaving AI research for engineering/neuroscience. Their reasons? 1. We need to understand how humans learn to teach machines to learn. 2. Research should be hypothesis -> experiments, but AI research rn is experiments -> justifying results.

So in 's livestream yesterday he mentioned his 'recent neural qubit paper'. I've found that huge chunks of it are plagiarised from a paper by Nathan Killoran, Seth Lloyd, and co-authors. E.g., in the attached images, red is Siraj, green is original

I believe I have written more papers than Alan Turing + John Nash! Numbers of papers alone is a wrong misleading metric. Please focus instead on writing good papers that advance the field, help the world, and that you’ll be proud of when you look back in 20 or 50 years.

Recipe for writing ML paper: 1) Open graduate math textbook at random page 2) Use idea on page to inject "domain knowledge" subnetwork into an already SoTA model, thus adding new params 3) Retrain entire new model + new params 4) Repeat 2 & 3 until beating SoTA Don't do this :)
