I visited Venezuela in 2006, while editor of SF Bayview newspaper. Hugo Chavez was president. College was free to all. I met a 50 y.o. housewife/law school student. In exchange for free college, grads had to do 3 years in govt services....
Higher education shouldn’t just be for the wealthy and the well-off. Congress should be doing more to ease the economic burden of higher education.

Why don't you go visit Venezuela today to see the result of dictator Hugo Chavez' handiwork? It's a prime example of what Americans have been warning of. A disaster that puts citizens in peril. Kamala Harris doesn't care because she believes herself insulated like Hugo Chavez.

This should also be the case for k-12 schools. To have them funded locally by property tax makes it certain that poorer districts get poorer ecucation; thus, perpetuating the cycle of crime and poverty and poor health.

There's an much easier less expensive fix. Simply require all colleges that provide student loans to counsel students on CLEP testing. 95% of college students know nothing about them and they can cut college costs by nearly half! https://clep.collegeboard.org

Unfortunately, there seems to be no such thing as higher education these days, especially in California where it has become higher indoctrination, and, as such, the American public should be relieved of the economic burden of same.
