I would agree, this is why I transferred to one of the cheapest unis in the USA. But given that the increase in tuition has been wildly disproportionate over the years, this solution is really just "I'm ok with less people going to college".

Free post secondary tuition at public institutions works extremely well in several nations, e.g. Scandanavian nations, and leads to higher productivity, higher wages and, ultimately, more money paid in taxes. It's smart socially and economically.

The trade-off is that university admission requirements are much more rigorous in Europe. Others go to vocational school.
