Responsible people have fire resistant safes for important papers and documents. However, if some don't, free or reduced costs are appropriate.
The recent California wildfires left approximately 100,000 Californians displaced. Those Californians who lost everything shouldn’t have to pay to replace immigration and naturalization documents that were damaged or destroyed.

Senator Harris, if there isn't a state or federal law that allows people who have been in natural disasters to replace their identification documents, there should be.

How about birth certificates? Driver's licenses? Marriage licenses? Unless everybody who suffered fire or hurricane loss gets a pass on document replacement, no one should.
