Every single teacher I know spends $$$$ out of their own pocket. It's not only bad public policy, it's just not right. We collect food for those less fortunate at this time of year. Shall we start collecting for teachers, too???

Let’s face it, with loss of tax deductions regarding student loans, loss of this deduction for teachers... it’s the GOP plan. Uneducated people are easier to control and manipulate.

English teacher here. I spend hundreds every year on basics like pencils and paper for my students. Obviously, I am freeloading off the government and giving me a $250/year tax credit takes money out of the mouths of billionaires. I should be ashamed.

1/Last year we spent more than $5k. This year it's been about 2/3 of that. Wife teaches some of the poorest LAUSD students. We do it

I don't condone pan handling in any form. In most states it is against the law. This also makes all teachers look bad .
