I met his widow several years ago at a union convention. She is still with us and is a powerful voice in her own right.

My Mom and I used to have lunch with her every year at the NAACP conventions, and she was one of the few people that could get my Mom to laugh.I think that she’s amazing, and inspirational because she basically built herself up after Medgar was killed. She didn’t run-she fought!

The Great Medgar Evers wouldn't even want you mentioning his name. You shouldn't even be allowed to speak it. Disgracefulpic.twitter.com/Ra7a7F3tSF

Bonus: He was also a WWII soldier and is buried at Arlington. This man walked the walk both when his Nation called and when his Nation failed him, paying the ultimate price. Rights are not finite, and unlike pie, we don’t have less if others get more.

Rest in Power, Mr. Evers. The Ideas live on. How many know that assassinated Civil Rights hero, Mr. Medgar Evers, was a veteran? Just a thought to those who choose to define patriotism in ways that disregard the multiple contributions of African Americans & other minorities.

A great man. His grave at Arlington is right next to my Great Uncle, who was the first Greek-American General in the Army.pic.twitter.com/WPyC4bwIGw

Interesting bit of history. Mass Greek migration here in Australia was mainly post ww2 but unsure of US history
