Kids I’m tutoring now walk to school parking lots to use basic WiFi bc their(old)phones have spotty, unreliable internet via cell carriers.
They don’t have computers/printers—their friends w/
internet access are left behind.
Access to the internet is a basic human right—bc C19

They promised this wouldn't happen when the internet started. People had these very concerns. Kids in poverty would be left behind. At first they said, each state would have a free net. For a few years, that happened. They quietly phased it out.

Or they could just write it out like literally everyone did for the last 200 years

I have to call Bull on this one. There are internet cafe's still around in some areas and most of our rural areas are wired up better than our cities. No one in this country goes without internet access unless they want to. Schools provide laptops, cell phones can be tethered.

Internet cafes? What is this, the 90's or early 2000's? Yes, Starbucks is open. No, you can't go do your term papers at Starbucks because the INSIDE of the store is closed. I suppose you can do it in your car, but there are only so many parking spots...

But in rural areas it is expensive, there is no competition! Our internet just went up to $90 and we have a data cap!
@HughesNet is the worst. We have no other options! -
I think
@Viasat might be worse. What's your slowdown speed? Mine is around 60kb download speed. - 3 more replies

Conpanies are offering free service, but without equipment, not accessible. We need MORE mobil hotspot units for students to checkout & more free WiFi locations (for use once SIP is over). At least as a short-term solution. That’s our next project here in FW.
