Interesting how we managed to survive for several centuries as a nation without that.
None should have to choose between staying home while sick or being able to afford to feed their babies and keep a roof over their head. Yet two-thirds of low-income workers do not have paid sick leave. Paid sick leave makes everyone safer. We must guarantee it now.

My concern is being an independent contractor I don’t get paid if I don’t work. I do daycare for teachers. They don’t need me if schools are closed. How do I qualify? I’m not taking care of a sick person but I’m not working. No income to pay the bills. How do I qualify for help?

Depending on the state, you may be able to apply for unemployment insurance, since one of the things being talked about atm is expanding those benefits.

If FEMA issues a Natural Disaster Declaration Federal Student Loans could be placed on hold until it's lifted. You would likely have to call in to request this individually unless FEMA automatically does it. I called my Student Loan office and they gave me this information.
