We talk a lot in education about the distinction between equality and equity and it just occurred to me this morning that equity is what Dr. King was talking about when he highlighted the problem with telling a bootless man to pull himself up by his bootstraps.
Or a contemporary example, telling undocumented immigrants to get in line when there is no line for them.
MLK loved his white bothers and sisters and wanted everyone to be seen as equal. He didn’t want minorities to receive special privileges and create inequality the other way. All American citizens are equal and should be treated the same!
What special privileges?
King was not a progressive. He promoted individual rights and liberty not collective or group rights. True liberty can only be realized on an individual level.
Revisionist history bot makes his appearance.
Kamala, yes we recommit to continue fighting for economic and racial justice. We have to #FlipTheSenate #FlipTheSenateBlue.
