I'm sorry but that is too unfair to the other employees with many other painful issues within their own families. Does the gov pay all during the leave or does it harm the small business entities even to driving them out of business?

Family leave also covers caring parent/spouse/ child w/ a catastrophic disease (i.e. cancer) or end of life care. This includes YOU taking time off to fight a disease. You never know.

The French get two years, the Italians get two years, with a guarantee their jobs are there when they come back, they don't get paid for it though. I think you'll find most EU countries are that way.

Even the autocratic, post-socialist Eastern European EU members have more paid leave, not parental (as they still think raising kids is only a woman's job) and it would lead to riots if it's lowered or annulled.
