The price is equal to the profit google makes in about half an hour. Nice gesture but no really a disincentive - would you work to make these fines painful for offenders?

Companies do not commit crimes or breech privacy. People do. Unless the people who make these decisions are charged instead of fining companies, nothing will change. It's the same with banks and other corporations. Jail the perpetrators.

Companies are liable for whatever happens within the confines of their property. That's why they invest in security and safety. Any one caught, tried and convicted should be punished to the extent of the law.

This point is already been made but... $170 million is like 95 cents in Google money. Nice windfall for the FTC though.

Google literally makes that money in in one minute... fines should be %of profit not fixed amounts 🙄 it’s worth it for a google to spend this TINY amount of $$$... cost of doing !

170 million is peanuts to them. Hit them with a fine of 17 billion if you want to see them change.

Make her president and she might do just that. 😉💙 I agree with you though. The penalty for corporate crime must be commensurate with corporate gain. ✔pic.twitter.com/QGXHDR0Nhn
