Then you need to get rid of tenure as well. We should have the right to fire bad teachers. And they should be evaluated yearly.
The future of our nation rests in the hands of our teachers. And too many teachers are leaving the profession because they can’t make ends meet. We need to give them a raise and pay them their value.

Tenure is about due process rights and stability. Bad teachers CAN be fired, just not arbitrarily. If tenure is eliminated, no one will teach, ever.

This educator made a heart-breaking choice to leave. Too many making decisions having never set foot on an educational career path & with no idea what's best practice/developmentally appropriate. Ridiculous workload expectations. Waning respect. No easy fix, but change must come.

I also made this decision in the spring (after 19 years). You’re absolutely right; it’s not just an issue in pay. In addition to the reasons you listed, I would also add fear for my safety. We had too many credible threats too many times. The stress was too much.

Restore collective bargaining and just pay scales. Stop funding for profit charter schools public school money. Stop subsidizing elite private schools with public school money through vouchers.

@Sir_Rawlings@madam_zaina_eve These are serious concerns even in Kenya. Inequality keeps growing wide with public schools being used just a channel and not an platform of brainstorming and awakening of potentials in our kids.

You realize they only work 9 months a year and have all holidays off. Haven't seen a shortage of teachers in cali.

Most of them work from home in the evenings and weekend. One of my BFFs, he puts in 3-4 more hours of work every night once he gets home. Please do not be ignorant, talk to a teacher.
