This is spot on, & it’s happening to indigenous ppl too. My cousins can’t get redress for abuse bc the Senate won’t reauthorize VAWA. Their maternal/child nutrition programs disappeared during the shutdown. They’re not even tracked as a demographic (as voters, constituents, etc).
A study shows more than 1 in 5 Black women report maternal mistreatment. This is a crisis. Black women are dying and they must be heard. Congress must pass my Maternal CARE Act to ensure Black and minority women receive the care they deserve.

Come back to AL. We dont even have a state-funded Maternal Mortality Review Board. We have a team of volunteers trying to do what the state should be doing. Any wonder mothers, especially black mothers, in AL die more often than almost in any other state?
