Right now, 1 in 3 Americans do not live within a 10-minute walk of a quality local park. No matter their zip code, all children deserve access to the outdoors. This week, I re-introduced the Outdoors for All Act to establish funding for parks and other outdoor recreation areas.

Don’t get me wrong, I love public spaces, but this doesn’t seem like that big of a problem really. In my state, and many other rural states I’d wager that 1/3 of the population doesn’t even live within 10 miles of the nearest grocery store.

I grew up with domestic violence. Having a nice city park and green spaces to walk helped me focus mentally, kept me thinking in a healthy productive way. These local governments should see this as a blessing. A healing balm for wounded children.
