Every teacher I know under the age of 40 regrets going into teaching in a nation that doesn’t support them.
We must recruit and retain teachers everywhere, especially in underserved communities. We should set up all students to succeed later in life. That starts with giving our teachers the raise and resources they deserve.

Heck I'm 58 and I regret it. I've been called a loser, a communist and an outside agitator- and that's this year. My school doesn't even have a PTA/PTSO- That's how much parents are involved these days. We get all the blame and NO respect or help from home.

These have been the HARDEST two years of my teaching career. We are the lowest paid teachers in or state. I couldn’t pay my mortgage this month yet I dealt with: school shootings, rape, suicide, molestation, death, students who couldn’t afford FOOD, and administrative FAILS.

One of the ONLY reasons teachers in our district stay is that our healthcare is a part of our collective bargaining rights. Our state wants to take that right away leaving us even more exposed and less covered.

Let’s start with valuing teaching unions instead of silencing them and prioritizing programs to bolster quality substitute teachers through incentives and training that cements the need for respecting that role in our schools.
