Some teachers work hard, others don’t give a damn. Unless there’s a grading system where teachers are appraised then this won’t work. Working a part time job during the summer allows teachers to make an extra 3-6k more a year.

Wow...an extra 3-6k?!? So that means teachers in my area only need to work 3 summer in one to make ends meet. Seriously, please learn what it’s really like to be a teacher.

Multiple studies have shown that teacher pay has fallen behind comparable industries in the United States (degrees required, number of years and hours worked, etc.) to 17% lower.
-
Teachers have also been found to have more hours of unpaid overtime than just about any other industry in the United States. While some teachers do have "summers off," the amount of days is not anywhere near where some claim.

They get 3.5 months a year off, correct?

Teachers work year round developing lessons, going to trainings, and do not get paid overtime.

Let’s also make it impossible for administrations to use vague and exploitative contract language such as “and other duties” that allows more and more work to be placed on faculty with no reprieve from current responsibilities nor promise of extra pay.

She’s saying we deserve to make that raise for the time we already put in. We don’t get paid for what we don’t do (ie: summers off). So no, we shouldn’t need to work the summers just to deserve a raise.

Almost everyone who has a minimum wage job has to work 2, sometimes 3 jobs. I did it for 30 years.

Teaching isn't a minimum wage job Jim
