Why do so many candidates talk about the minimum wage WITHOUT also talking about inflation and the cost of living? What happens when minimum wage raises to $15 and cost of living is higher still?

Minimum wage was to help 16 year olds to make extra money. I knew when I got my first job making 1.60 an hour. I was never going to live off that. What are you talking about?
-
@tomd3iii $1.60 in 1970 is worth about $10.66 today. The minimum wage is currently $7.25. If you think the $1.60 you made back then was fair then you should support at least raising the minimum wage to the same level today. Or would you argue that you made too much? - 3 more replies

Make sure that happens for waitstaff too, like in other countries.

And END the stupid practice of tipping. So exhausted paying for another full price of dinner so I meet the 20% requirement. Why should I subsidize Olive Garden Red Lobster IHOP et al. Just stupid. Pay them a living wage!

In fairness, the President cannot unilaterally raise the minimum wage in our Constitutional Republic. Laws are passed by Congress and signed by the President. Madison and the boys created a system of Separation of Powers with Check & Balances.

And while that's a terrific idea the effect of such a move would be catastrophic to small businesses and workers as they see lobs leaving.
