Teachers work 180 days per year and 35 hour work weeks. I agree that they are an important profession and likely deserve more pay but if they’re getting paid less than people working 40 hours a week year round then that makes complete sense.

This is hilarious. On average, I work 9.5 hr days though I’ve had a good amount of 11 hour days (contract hours are 7.5, but it’s impossible to get all necessary work done in that time). Plus I typically work on Saturdays to grade and plan. Over 50 hours/wk easily

Given that you wanted to lock up parents for their child’s truancy, I’m shocked that your teaching agenda isn’t just about locking up teachers whose students underperform. You’re slowly but surely becoming less horrible! Congrats.

Pay is one issue..however, some Teachers value autonomy, mastery, purpose within their job, the promotion of student innovation/empowerment through subject knowledge, and control of the organisation to deliver innovation through reach out.
