As a teacher, I would love for the emphasis to be on STUDENT benefit of raises. When teachers are well paid, they stay in the profession longer, they have more time for students because they aren’t working a third job, and they can afford to LIVE IN the communities they teach in.

When I make more $, I can afford to keep my stash of “students didn’t have lunch so here’s some sustenance” granola bars; I can buy blankets for them when they are cold; I can buy books for our class library that speak to their diversity; I can buy the subscription to newspapers

A raise is nice but how about support and discipline to remove students who take away from others in the class that want to be there. No social promotion. Legally in the country to get an education? Hmm.

Give teachers raises instead of guns. I love it! And maybe give them supplies instead of pellet gun wounds. It sounds crazy, I know.
