My 10th grade English teach Kyla Ward noticed I needed glasses badly, and would always email me inexpensive ways to get my eyes checked and pay for glasses until I was able to do so.

My daughter woke up & couldn't fit in her shoes. I sent her to school in my shoes. After work, I ran into her teacher at Payless. I think she was shopping for my daughter. I was upset about it because she had measured her feet in school etc. But I realize now she was being nice.

I flunked 7th grade math but when I got to high school Mr. Wright taught algebra with such clarity and grace that I found a passion for the subject and went on to study physics and math in college. Truly a great teacher and human being.

This is a wonderful testament of how 1 good teacher can make all the difference. As a math teacher myself, I aspire to this too. Can I ask what were some of his particular techniques or approaches to teaching that you liked?

I was always sick as a child due to an immune disorder & couldn’t go out for recess in the cold Ohio winters. So I stayed in every day with my first grade teacher Mr. Martin. He taught me about not just subjects but the way to live your life which I still carry with me today!

I saved every card, picture and letter my students gave me in my career. Meant more than gold.

My high school journalism teacher Ms. Jones, who encouraged me to keep writing and said she had no doubt she’d see my name in a byline one day. She was right.

Being an educator (assistant principal and former ELA teacher) I see everyday what a profound influence teachers have. I’m blessed with an amazing staff in my NYC school, but know they’re EVERYWHERE! It’s humbling to know and whatch them work!!

My current chorus teacher is the best teacher I’ve ever had. He’s such an inspiration, he challenges us to be the best we can be. He’s the reason I want to be a teacher. Mr. William Verity.
