Really Kamala? There is so much variety in salary between states — let's not pretend Boston teachers and Oklahoma teachers are even close to being in the same boat. Oh, and their job is protected regardless of performance. Some would say that too is a national failure.

I agree teachers should be paid more, but everything I read says they make above US household median income, for 9 months of work, and spend less than $1000 out of pocket a year on supplies? Are they just bad with money??
-
Get lost with that 9 months of work take. Also consider my lunch break is about 12 minutes. Plus I got one more word for ya....teenagers.

During the 10 months that I’m required to work, I work 9-10 hours each day. I eat lunch standing up, supervising and problem solving. Do you even know any teachers?

Teachers work harder than you do no matter what you do - 1 more reply

I think the most practical way to do this, due to the lack of funding for schools, is to give teachers a tax break. Not only would it reward current teachers but it would also encourage talented young people to enter the education profession.
-
You could also give an additional tax break for those teachers who work in inner-city or rural schools, where it is much harder to find teachers, especially highly qualified ones.
