Last week Sydney Aiello, a student at Parkland, took her own life. She was 19. She was close friends with Parkland shooting victim Meadow Pollack. Sydney’s mom said Sydney felt survivor’s guilt, was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder. Kids don’t deserve this either.
Our teachers didn’t sign up for this. They should be teaching our children about history, music, or math — and helping them grow. The sad reality is these situations DO exist, regardless if you or anyone else is outraged by that. I would much rather be prepared for such situations then pretend they do NOT exist. [No, the training should not harm the trainees.]

Prepared is not armed. This is the wrong way to handle the school shooting crisis in our country, and it will only make schools more violent.

How does a simulated execution prepare teachers for anything other than being executed? Normalizing is not a strategy and this attempt to desensitize us is not a strategy. We need reform not education on how to submit.
