My husband and I have both worked in education . He for 35 years and I for 21. I am semi-retired, but still working for medical insurance. No raises for 7 years during the recession. We lost a third of our retirement savings during the downturn. Rewarding work that doesn’t pay.

Liberal Logic: Raise all teachers' salaries because a few (very few) of them bought supplies for the students. I have been hearing the same line for 30 years. Meanwhile, I hear from some people, teachers in LA make $70-$100K/yr. Not exactly starvation level wages, are they?

We are doomed if teachers are 'raising our children.' Where are all the parents? Teachers have but one job -- to teach. But I see them doing zumba in the streets to get pay raises instead. This seems less about teachers and more about teachers unions shaking down taxpayers.

This isn't about their pay. They have negotiated to 1/2 of a percentage point. It's about smaller class sizes, nurses, counselors, librarians, and not giving school funding to for profit corporations.
