That's because minimum wage isn't designed to keep a roof over your head. It's for people with the minimum skills and experience and the minimum needs.

Not trying to argue, but minimum wage was implemented to stop extreme wage abuses. ALL people deserve a roof over their heads regardless!! More affordable housing is needed.

A low minimum wage was a motivator for me to get an education and a career. When I was a teenager, no one looked at minimum wage jobs as careers.

In the past (before 1980ish) it was possible to get a job in mills, other industrial settings, that paid a living family wage. In 1975 a millworker in my area made $18+ hr. Same job today in same place is $16. 43 years later, prices way up, wages down.

What percentage of minimum wage workers are having to put a roof over their head. Because if that was one’s career choice they need to make better choices.

My family of 4 qualified for food stamps on my salary when I started my teaching career. I suppose that was not a very good career choice.
