If you can’t do the time, don’t commit the crime. You fail to see how you are enabling behavior by excusing it with leniency. We should target problems at the source, not bend or change our laws to encourage them.

Bail is not a punishment. It is a method to ensure a pretrial defendant will return to court. And in jurisdictions where it has been eliminated or curtailed, there has been very little impact on the default rate.

Just spitballing here, bu maybe they should not commit any crimes, violent or not. That would obviate the problem completely, no?

Non violent crime could be a speeding ticket, jaywalking, weed possession. You have countless homeless people who get tickets with no income to pay or post bail stock in a cell. Issues are not black and white
