Cool. I just dealt with a 17 y/o at McDs who couldn’t figure out how much change to give me when his computer register crapped out. He had to use his phone to calculate it for him. Yes. Let pay him +$20/hr. He deserves it.

You know what my mom used to do years ago when technology took over for cashiers and a machine broke down? She patiently stood there and taught the kid HOW to count the money back. It’s an easy skill that MOST people don’t need to use much. Teaching moments, bud. Save your snark.

Employers are greedy. We gave GM generous tax breaks and they just announced they're going to outsource jobs anyway. We should stop doing things for businesses, they never bring good paying jobs no matter what we do for them. It's all about the execs wallets, nothing else.
-
The thing is this is where government has to get involved imo. It’s foolish to think that businesses will feel obligated to provide a living wage to working class people when they can just fire them and get more money for doing so (GM comes to mind). If they can get away with it

So a highschooler working part time should make the same wage as a single parent of two?
-
If they’re doing the same job, yes.

The Federal minimum wage was never intended to support a family, only serve as a starting point for new entrants to the workforce. Raise it to $15. and see how many people you will put out of work, Ms. Harris. ‘Course you’d just love to have more people on welfare.
-
The purpose of the minimum wage was to stabilize the post-depression economy and protect the workers in the labor force. The minimum wage was designed to create a minimum standard of living to protect the health and well-being of employees.

It’s hard as hell living on $20/hr. The federal minimum wage is flat out cruel.
-
Are you kidding?? I would KILL to make $20 an hour. And I would be sitting pretty with that kind of cash
