@KamalaHarris I am an immigrant, and I disagree with your statement. This is the reason most people in this country are against immigration. If we come to this country is because we can work and be financially sustainable, not to be asking for handouts.

I had immigrants working in a hotel as housekeepers. They were hired p/t but usually worked 33-40 hours at minimum wage. They weren't eligible for health ins. Take home pay was $190 - $240 weekly. Rent, utilities, food & bus fare. Leaves little for much.

I would add "counterproductive" to your description. My family and I came to US 25 years ago and for a short while benefited from food stamps and Medicaid. We have repayed this investment in us many times over as we became engineers, pharmacists, dentists, small business owners.
