I follow the sage advice of an old Japanese gent I met in the 1970's "Steve, if they say cyclone(hurricane) is coming you get going as far away as you can next day. You come back and rebuild after cyclone has past. Always leave 2-3 days before. Last day not good."

Fun fact: Many civilians and government contractors are being ordered to go to work in areas of evacuation zones in Virginia despite their evacuation orders. Many civilians and contractors are unable to afford to take unpaid leave and will be going to work as directed.
