Each year I award a scholarship to honor of my son who I lost several years ago. This years applicants are so smart, dedicated, giving back to their communities, yet in serious financial straits. I am heartsick that I'm unable to assist them all. Worthy yet struggling for funds.

I often wonder, with trepidation and sadness, about all the innovators and incredible minds which have been lost through the exclusion of black, brown, and impoverished youth who have the ability, but not the opportunities.

What about a poor child who ranks in the 96-99% for ITBS and did well for 2 years in parochial school. Single Mom made great sacrifices til she lost her job. An honest school administrator agreed he would be best served w homeschooling. No $$$ to live in better school area.
